The URT Data Management Three-phase Process
Because electronic storage media has many forms, URT developed a comprehensive, three-phase approach to managing company/personal data:
Electronic Data Removal
Our licensed software technology is listed as an approved sanitizing solution by the U.S. Department of Defense, meeting DOD 5220.22-M and National Security Agency standards, as well as the more stringent and recent National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) eradication standards referred to as NIST 800-88. NIST 800-88 provides for both "clear" and "purged" data. URT processes meet all requirements, including NIST's purge rating, the highest level of security acknowledged by the NIST.
Each unit we receive is tracked and logged via manufacturer and serial number. All corporate identification tags are removed to protect your privacy. Electronic data removal permanently erases operating systems, program files and data.
Degaussing System
We utilize a professional degaussing system for media where electronic data removal is not an option. The degaussing system not only removes 100 percent of the data but also renders the hard drive inoperative. Each unit is individually tracked and logged via manufacturer and serial number, and all corporate identification tags are removed.
Physical Destruction System
Our data secure process area additionally utilizes an industrial shredder specifically designed to process hard drives. When physical separation is a must, our process ensures total destruction of each and every drive.
URT manages each shipment based on the requirements of its customers. All equipment containing data is processed first within the data security department to ensure that all data destruction is completed in a secure environment. Based on our customer's requirements, the equipment is then reviewed for reuse or sent directly to the disassembly area. If customers allow for reuse of the equipment, each unit is tested to determine proper operation and component replacement when necessary. Any equipment destined for refurbishment is inspected for corporate identification. All corporate identification is removed prior to remarketing.
