Every day is Earth Day at Universal Recycling Technologies, LLC
From Dallas Mavericks fans and UW DoIT patrons to local Jefferson County residents, new URT partnerships provide sustainable and convenient electronics recycling
JANESVILLE, WI (April 22, 2010) – April was a banner month for new initiatives at Universal Recycling Technologies, LLC (URT), including the debut of three new recycling partnerships:
- Beginning today, April 22, 2010, UW faculty, students and community members will be able to take advantage of an environmentally friendly, on-campus alternative to disposing of old personal computers and computer components. DoIT has partnered with URT to ensure sustainable and secure recycling. To recycle with DoIT and URT, visit the DoIT Walk-In Help Desk located at 1210 W. Dayton Street between 7:45am and 5pm. Personal computers and components will be accepted. For more information, visit http://helpdesk.doit.wisc.edu/page.php?id=12022.
- On April 9, 2010, the Dallas Mavericks hosted their second annual E-Cycle Drive at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. All day, fans and community members dropped off TVs, computers, monitors, laptops, keyboards, mice, power cords and other electronic supplies free of charge for proper recycling. Electronics manufacturer Samsung, one of the first e-Steward® Enterprises, sponsored the event in partnership with URT in honor of Earth Day’s 40th anniversary month. URT collected and will properly recycle all items from the event. URT and Samsung have a long history of collaboration and both participate in the e-Steward® certification program, the world’s only environmental group endorsed, third-party audited certification. - Jefferson County, WI, officials opened three new recycling sites in April to replace the electronics collection that historically took place at the county’s Clean Sweep events. Three collections sites—located in Jefferson, Watertown and near Ixonia—will accept TVs, computers, DVD players, printers and other electronics. All electronics will be properly disposed of by URT, which is headquartered in Janesville, WI. “A lot of people don’t understand there are metals in the electronics they are done using and if you don’t recycle them properly, they end up in our water supply,” said Sharon Ehrhardt, Jefferson County Solid Waste and Air Quality and Zoning Program Assistant. For more information on collection site locations and hours of operation, visit www.jeffersoncountywi.gov.
“We are so pleased to enter into each of these important partnerships in celebration of Earth Day. But for us, every day is Earth Day. From day one, we have been committed to sustainable, ethical recycling. It is the only thing that make sense,” says Jim Cornwell, Universal Recycling Technologies (URT) President. “There has been a great deal of positive change since Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson introduced Earth Day in 1970 to encourage legislators to consider the environmental impact of their policy decisions and make environmental stewardship a national priority. But we understand there is still much work to be done. We will continue to champion ethical recycling and do all we can to make Senator Nelson’s vision a reality.”
Universal Recycling Technologies (URT) offers a wide range of recycling services at eight locations across the nation, providing comprehensive solutions for all types of universal waste and e-waste, asset management, WasteSecure™ pre-paid pack-and-ship box recycling programs, and a proprietary line of recycling equipment.
