Janesville, WI (August 2, 2011) – Universal Recycling Technologies, LLC (URT) is partnering with Johnson Bank for a series of free electronics recycling collection events. On September 10, 2011, from 8 am to noon, URT will collect old and obsolete electronics at three southern Wisconsin Johnson Bank locations:
- 2021 Holiday Drive, Janesville, WI
- 200 Sherman Avenue West, Fort Atkinson, WI
- 1000 Fox Street, Mukwonago, WI
The recycling will be provided at no cost. Donations to the local area Crime Stoppers will be accepted. The collection will start at 8 am and last until approximately noon.
URT’s Janesville campus, which includes its corporate office and two processing facilities, recently attained certification to the e-Stewards® Standard for Responsible Recycling and Reuse of Electronic Equipment. The e-Stewards Electronic Recycling Certification is the first fully accredited, independently audited certification program designed to ensure that e-waste will be responsibly–and accountably–recycled, and not dumped in developing countries. e-Stewards certified recyclers adhere to the strictest available recycling standards in the industry. URT’s Janesville campus is also ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certified.
Community collection events are one way URT promotes responsible recycling, helping to keep potentially toxic materials out of landfills and away from developing countries ill-equipped to deal with the waste. Electronic waste, and in particular the leaded glass used in older-model TV screens and computer monitors, is hazardous if not properly recycled. Electronic equipment contains poisons like lead and cadmium, which can leech into the environment, potentially contaminating soil and groundwater.
