Janesville, WI (August 8, 2011) – Universal Recycling Technologies, LLC (URT) is partnering with the Village of Orfordville to host a free electronics recycling collection event. On August 20, 2011, from 9 am to 1 pm, URT will collect old and obsolete electronics at the corner of Highway 11 and Highway 213 in the industrial park. The recycling will be provided at no cost.
Community collection events are one way URT promotes responsible recycling, helping to keep potentially toxic materials out of landfills and away from developing countries ill-equipped to deal with the waste. Electronic waste, and in particular the leaded glass used in older-model TV screens and computer monitors, is hazardous if not properly recycled. Electronic equipment contains poisons like lead and cadmium, which can leech into the environment, potentially contaminating soil and groundwater.
URT’s Janesville campus, which includes its corporate office and two processing facilities, recently attained certification to the e-Stewards® Standard for Responsible Recycling and Reuse of Electronic Equipment. The e-Stewards Electronic Recycling Certification is the first fully accredited, independently audited certification program designed to ensure that e-waste will be responsibly–and accountably–recycled, and not dumped in developing countries. e-Stewards certified recyclers adhere to the strictest available recycling standards in the industry. URT’s Janesville campus is also ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certified.
For more information on this event, you can contact Village of Orfordville Village Clerk Sherri Waege at (608) 879-2004, or Universal Recycling Technologies Midwest Field Sales Regional Account Manager Tim Ryan at (608) 314-8115.
